Letter to the Blue-wave

Dear Newly-Elected Democrats:

Now that you have Blue-waved Mr Trump, We the People need you to deliver for us.

A Republican friend says he wishes he could have lunch with Mr. T., so he could sock him in the jaw to make him shut up. My Democrat friends wish more than that on the man.

What we really want is something more. We want a return to America the Decent. All of us together believe in justice: fair trials and accountability. We believe in the dignity of everyone: the poor and middle classes, not deference to the wealthy. We believe in a country founded on moral, ethical principles, not a favored religion. You are mandated to rule us according to these, our Constitutional principles.

We want you to design your agenda for 2027 with realistic legislative goals. Your party has put forward bills in recent years that were summarily tabled. We don’t even know what they were. Bring them out. If they contribute to America the Decent, if they are fair and right, make them happen. If they are a swing of the pendulum from far Right to far Left, table them. We need to trust you, not listen to noise.

Spend your collective energy now on setting the keel of government to a clear direction. Solve those immediate problems that can be solved as you take back initiatives that belong to Congress and the Senate. Pull us out of an unwanted, undeclared war. Turn us away from a tariff war. Remind us that a healthy economy is based on wages and prices, not on the stock market.

Some of us say we want you to avenge us, to make the culprits suffer the way we have suffered. What we really want is more important than that. We want to regain trust in our government. We want a return to true prosperity, where people up and down the classes can thrive, not just those who own stocks and yachts.

There will be time to work with the justice system to determine right from wrong and to deal with broken laws. Please do not distract us with righteous headlines against miscreants. If you pursue an angry, get-back agenda, we will think you are too screeching to deserve our trust. But, if you pursue justice while keeping your hand on the ship’s true keel, the pursuit of actual needs, we will know your intentions and be gratified.

As you make hard legislative choices, we will judge your degree of wisdom. We need you to navigate the coming vortex, the waters behind the Blue-wave. We need you to use a steady hand on the keel, guided by the principles of our Constitution, to take us to America the Decent.
