May your foundation be strong when the winds of change are swift. – Bob Dylan –
Can-do folks know that in our hidden foundations we are all capable of more than we believe we are. Ask my friend, Coach Walters. He is famous for convincing his track runners to bolt ahead at the end of an exhausting race. He taught them to believe in themselves and find that extra gas in the tank.
In April the traffic lights went out all over Spain. The whole country’s electrical grid went down including traffic lights. Many Spanish drivers panicked. They hunkered down, stranded in place. Others, trusted their own savvy and continued cautiously to drive. These folks made it home.
Why do some of us hunker down when the world is unpredictable and others keep going? The easy answer is that life has prepared one group to believe they can manage the hard parts and the other that they cannot. Nowadays the winds of national change look more like hurricanes. We are called upon to believe in our common foundation the way Coach’s runners believed in theirs.
